Are you a left-hander? If you took this picture from chopsticks side, usually chopsticks are placed in the opposite way.
And if you prepare 一汁三菜 , main dish is placed at the center and rice bowl on the left and soup bowl on the right side.
Rice has been regarded as sacred(important) food and left side implies upper rank in Japan.
And this setting is convenient to eat food triangular order which means rice soup main dish and rice again.
I think there are many theories.

Yeah I know Japanese have a certain setting of the rice and dishes. For me i set up for whichever make photo taking better, when I eat it's a different story altogether. Haha. And no I'm right-handed.
