マカロニアンドチーズ風お餅と白菜

Had some leftover cheese sauce,tried it with mochi,napa cabbage and shiitake,and because of the bad experience last time,I made only a small serving this time.
白菜 and 餅 are remind me New year food '雑煮'. In Japan, we eat 雑煮 and 御節料理. My 雑煮 is 鰹出汁 and 餅菜(小松菜) only. It's very simple. In HK what do you eat as new year food?

I am very interested at 雑煮,so many different varieties, everywhere has a different version, look forward to seeing yours soon!
This idea comes from a shanghai dish,they stir fried mochi with 白菜,shiitake and pork,the cheese idea comes from Korea,if I am not wrong,they make mochi with cheese too,may a cross cultural thing.
It's funny, Shanghai people call mochi '年糕',but our Cantonese '年糕' is sweet,also made from glutinous rice,and hence the name we eat that during new year,apart from that our new food also includes daikon mochi,芋頭(taro)糕,油角,髮菜蠔鼓(水雲like and dried oyster),also 南乳炆齋(soy products and veggies stew with fermented soy paste),and many many more!
Hi Lara,you get me,lately I love making oven food,more casual and rustic,feel comforting and not to mention the warmth and the aroma in the room!
If you see my Mac and cheese post you will know,it was delicious,only too heavy,all those butter and cheese.....I didn't have a big portion but I ended up not feel like eating whole day,I don't know how the Americans do it!
So I only did a small cocotte this time!

Thanks for the reply! I saw your post "Mac and cheese" when you updated. I agree with you. Butter, cheese or heavy cream... These make the meal so rich and delicious! I love it♡ But sometimes, I need to change some small portion of those dishes. Mochi, shiitake and napa cabbag are very right more than "Mac and cheese". You were able to end up eating easily, weren't you?😋

Yes,the best way to deal with this is to eat American food in small portions,we could still have delicious food and easy with the stomach at the same time.
Well,we have winters here,but this year is still hot,I am wearing short sleeves t-shirt today!Hopefully it gets cold soon,there are still lots of winter food I want to make.And it wouldn't feel right having a warm Christmas!
