In a pressure cooker or electric cooker, add the washed and clean moong dal, diced carrots,chopped onion, tomatoes and green chilli. Pressure cook it for two whistles.

Meanwhile, in a mixer jar add 3 tbspn grated coconut, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 2 red chilli , add little water and grind it to paste.

Add the ground mixture into the cooked moong dal, add salt to taste and leave it to boil.

For tadka/ temper heat 1 tbspn oil/ ghee in a small pan and add mustard seeds in the hot oil. when the mustard splutters add in the curry leaves and red chilli. Pour this into the cooked gravy and mix it well

The carrot moong dal gravy is ready. Serve it with hot rice.
