Chop potatoes, celery, carrots, onions, sweet potatoes, baby portabellas and green beans into bite size pieces. Put everything except the sweet potatoes into your crock pot.
2
Coarsely chop your garlic and add it to the slow cooker
3
In a frying pan melt the butter. Add beef once butter has melted coat with salt and pepper then brown all sides of the cubes.
4
Remove meat from pan and add to crock pot leaving drippings in frying pan.
5
Add 1 cup of the beer to the drippings stir well to mix. Add cinnamon, cloves, fennel, cayenne, salt, pepper, beef base and rosemary to your mixture. Over medium heat add your flour slowly then allow the mixture to come to a boil. Make sure you stir continuously. Once mixture begins to thicken remove from the heat and add to your crock pot.
6
Add the additional 1/2 cup of beer and the water to your crock pot.
7
Cover crock pot and cook on low for 4 hours. Uncover add sweet potatoes and recover. Cook another 4 hours on low. You can cook the sweet potatoes the entire eight hours if you prefer though they become a little too mushy for my taste.
