Homemade Pom. One of the most popular Surinamese dishes.

1/2 kg
Grated tayerroot
1 pack
Piccalilly
3 tbsp
Nutmeg
1 Pinch
Black pepper

Small tomatoes

Salt cured meat
200 g
Springs of celery

Brown sugar
1 - 2 tbsp

Chicken stock cubes

2 glasses
Tomato ketchup
2 tbsp

作り方

Wash the grated tayerroot, salted meat and chicken, chop into pieces and then rub with nutmeg, salt and black pepper.

Partially desalt the salt meat and cut it into pieces.

Fry the chicken in some oil until light brown.

Put the butter in a pan and fry the chopped onion and the salt meat in it.

When it is already a bit fried, add the chopped tomato and the chicken and toss.

Then add 3 crumbled stock cubes, 2 glasses of water, the chopped celery, sugar and pepper and let it boil for a while. Finish to taste.

Mix the tomato ketchup, piccalilli, some chicken gravy and 1 crumbled stock cube in the tayer.

Place part of the tayer in a fireproof dish, top with the chicken, salt meat and some gravy.

Cover the meat with the rest of the tayer and pour the rest of the gravy over it.

Place a few knobs of butter on the pom and bake for 1½ hours in a preheated oven at 160 – 180 ºC.

When the pom is cooked, it will have a dark brown crust and a golden yellow inside.
