Wash the green peas and put them in a pot with 13cups of water with onion cut in two. Bring it to boil and lower the heat and cook peas until tender, 20 minutes. In a pan fry the chopped bacon until brown and add bacon to green peas.

To prepare the SOFRITO: Heating oil in a pan and add the onion and garlic until they change colour 4 min., then add the tomato and pepper and continue cooking for 7 min.

Add the sofrito(no.2), potatoes, salt, pepper and sugar to the soup, continue cooking over medium heat until it thickens slightly, then remove the two halves of onion remove from the heat.
